Are the alpacas harmed to get their fleece?
Never. Alpacas are shorn once a year in spring, a lot like a haircut. It doesn’t hurt, it keeps them cool through the warm months and the fleece grows right back. Our fiber comes from herds raised by families in the Peruvian highlands, whose livelihood depends on healthy, well-cared-for animals.
Is it really 100% alpaca?
Yes. Every throw is 100% baby alpaca with no acrylic, polyester or wool blended in. Many “alpaca” blankets are blends, often mixed with synthetics to cut costs, which is where scratchiness and stuffy warmth tend to come from. Ours is just alpaca.
What does “baby alpaca” mean?
It isn’t fleece from baby alpacas. It’s the name for the finest, softest grade of alpaca fleece, sorted out from each shearing. That’s why it feels so smooth against your skin.
Is alpaca itchy?
Not like wool. Baby alpaca fibers are fine and smooth, so they don’t prickle the way many wool blankets do. Most people find it comfortable right against bare skin.
Is it hypoallergenic?
Alpaca is naturally free of lanolin, the wool grease that bothers many people with wool sensitivities, so it’s often a great fit for sensitive skin. Everyone is different, which is why every order comes with our 100-day money-back guarantee.
How warm is it?
Very. Alpaca keeps you cozy on cold nights without feeling heavy, and it breathes, so you won’t overheat on the sofa. At about 1.1 lb, it’s light enough to use year-round.
Will it shed?
A little light shedding in the first few uses is normal for natural fiber. It settles down quickly.
How do I care for it?
Mostly, you don’t. Air it out between uses and spot clean as needed. For a full wash, hand wash in cool water with a gentle wool wash and lay flat to dry, or dry clean.
What if I don’t love it?
Use it for 100 days. If it isn’t right, send it back for a full refund. And shipping is free on every order.
